Hengyi Jiang studied preventive medicine at School of Public Health in Southeast University. During that time, he found his interest in biochemistry and after receiving his bachelor’s degree of medicine he went onto study molecular biology in Secondary Medical University on the topic of identifying proteins affected by Aβ protein in Alzheimer’s disease using drosophila model. Then he continued his pursuit of Ph.D. degree in Fudan University and joined Alastair Murchie’s lab with the research topic of identifying and characterizing mitochondrial RNA polymerase in fission yeast. Later on, he worked on RNA methyltransferase, riboswitches and ribozymes. As one of the first joint authors he discovered the first SAM-utilizing ribozyme that catalyze RNA methylation without protein factor and solved the crystal structure with collaborators. As a amateur programmer, Hengyi actively use scripting languages such as Ruby and PHP in his research daily routines. He developed a lab management system and some small bioinformatic tools available on his site. He also developed a local file managing and note-taking tool using Golang. As a application specialist and electronic specialist, he ran and maintained a SPR machine and HPLC machines. In 2022 Hengyi took the position of research associate in IBS and continued his researches on RNAs.
